
THE PUMPKIN KID - A New Musical

Casting 6 Adults (18+) and 1 child (8-12) for a new musical, The Pumpkin Kid. People of all ages. races, ethnicities, abilities/disabilities, and sexual/gender identities are welcome and encouraged to audition.
Non-Union. Pay: $35 per show plus Rehearsal Stipend.
First round of auditions will be by self-tape due BY AUGUST 15th.
Followed by in-person appointments and in-person call backs on AUGUST 18.

Please send a Headshot, Resume and a SELF-TAPE of you singing THIRTY-TWO bars (32) of any classic musical theater or folk song (Ashman & Menken, Stephen Schwartz, Lopez & Anderson, Pasek & Paul, Disney musicals)
SELF-TAPE REQUIREMENTS:

Please record a video on a device of yourself singing 32 bars of a musical theater song.

Perform with accompaniment (piano, backing track, or live instrument preferred—no a cappella).

Frame the video waist-up with good lighting and clear sound.

Slate at the beginning with your NAME & LOCATION & UNION STATUS

Please be sure that you have no performance conflicts prior to auditioning. Performance conflicts will not be accepted for this production. Excessive conflicts can and will affect casting decision

Bartole, (Baker, Paganini, others)
Male or Female Presenting, 30's-70's, Any ethnicity,
Bartole is a Pumpkin Carver and storyteller, wise, patient, humorous, somewhat magical. They serve as the storyteller and guide.
The Pumpkin Kid
Male or Female Presenting, 8-12, Any ethnicity
Optimistic, imaginative, kind, resilient, good-humored. An orphan who brings hope to a town filled with disillusionment.
The Candle Lady
Comic actor, 30-60's, Female Presenting, Any ethnicity, Alto
The leader of the comical “candle” duo. A charismatic character actor. Prickly and practical, the Candle Lady runs a candle-making shop with her husband. Though initially stern and dismissive, we eventually see her soften.
The Candle Man
Comic actor, 30's-60's, Male Presenting, Any ethnicity, Baritone/Tenor
The second member of the comic “candle” duo. An ornery and contentious yes-man, but deferential to his prickly wife. Underneath, he is warm-hearted & jovial. Musical Instrument a +
The Blacksmith
Big physical presence, 30's-60's, Male Presenting, Any ethnicity, Baritone/Bass
A big, burly, gruff, man, hardened by the years and resistant to change. Like the others, once he opens up, we see his vulnerability and compassion.
The Woodcarver
Charismatic character actor, 30's-60's, Female Presenting, Any ethnicity, Mezzo
Suspicious, skeptical. A talented, but disillusioned artist, she now spends her time carving mundane household objects, but she once carved elegant musical instruments.
The Tailor
Good dramatic chops. 40's-70's, Male Presenting, Any ethnicity, Baritone/Tenor
A bitter, irritable man. A tragic, unapproachable character with a hard shell. He constantly pushes others away. Under his harsh demeanor is a melancholy, guilt ridden vulnerability.
